Jimmy Howard Retires After 14 NHL Seasons

Former Detroit Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard announced his retirement after 14 seasons on Thursday.

Howard, 36, a free agent, didn't sign anywhere this offseason. He finishes with a 246-196-70 career record with a 2.62 goals-against average and 24 shutouts in 543 games.

Keith Yandle Scores 100th Career Goal, Keeps Game Streak Alive

Panthers defenseman Keith Yandle scored his 100th career goal and kept his consecutive games streak alive in their season-opening win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday, just days after it appeared he might be a healthy scratch.

Yandle scored the second goal in the Panthers' 5-2 home victory over the Blackhawks, emphatically celebrating to the delight of his teammates.

The defenseman played 16:41 for the night in his 867th consecutive NHL game, which is the fourth-longest streak in NHL history. Doug Jarvis has the NHL record at 964 games.

The Boston Bruins will retire Willie O'Ree's No. 22 and raise it into the rafters this season, honoring him for being the NHL's first Black player. The Bruins will celebrate O'Ree in a ceremony on Feb. 18 before a game against the New Jersey Devils.

Colin Wilson Retires After 11 NHL Seasons

Colin Wilson, who played 11 seasons with the Colorado Avalanche and Nashville Predators as part of a three-generation NHL family, announced his retirement Tuesday.

The 31-year-old forward played nine games for Colorado last season before having double hip surgery.
